About Ethiope West Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ethiope West LGA is found in Delta state, South-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria with the headquarters of the area domiciled in the town of Oghara. Several towns and villages make up Ethiope West LGA and these include Egbeku, Egbo, Obramudu, Otumara, Umoro, Atiwor, Osoguo. Ugbakele, and Ukuegbagha. The estimated population of Ethiope West LGA is 129,772 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s populace being members of the Urhobo ethnic affiliation. The Urhobo language is the widely spoken language in Ethiope West while the religion of Christianity is the most practiced in the LGA. Prominent traditional rulers in Ethiope west LGA include the Ovie of Oghara while important landmarks in Ethiope west LGA include the Western Delta University and the Delta state polytechnic in Otefe-Oghara.


GEOGRAPHY OF ETHIOPE WEST

Ethiope west LGA covers a total area of 536 square kilometres and the LGA witnesses two major seasons which are the rainy and the dry seasons. The average temperature of the area is 25.5 degrees centigrade while the average wind speed in the area is estimated at 13 km/h.


ECONOMY OF ETHIOPE WEST

Fishing is an important economic activity in Ethiope west LGA with the areas rivers and tributaries being rich in seafood. The LGA also hosts a number of banks, hotels, restaurants and relaxation spots. Other important enterprises engaged in by the people of Ethiope west LGA include farming, hunting, wood carving and trade.
