About Izzi Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Izzi local government area is in Ebonyi state, South-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria and share boundaries with Abakaliki, Ikwo, and with parts of Cross River and Benue states. Towns and villages that make up Izzi LGA include Abaja, Igbeagu, Mgbala ukwu, Ndieze, Ezzinyi magu, Edukpachi, Ohuruekpe, and Okpoduma. The estimated population of Izzi LGA is put at 157,893 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Izzi sub-division of the Igbo ethnic group. The Izzi dialect of the Igbo language is widely spoken in the LGA while Christianity is the most practiced religion in the area. Important festivals held in Izzi LGA include the Ojiji festival while the notable landmarks in the area include the Nwofe Primary school Agbaja.


GEOGRAPHY OF IZZI

Izzi local government area covers a total area of 2,264 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 27 degrees centigrade. The LGA has the guinea savannah vegetation type with an estimated elevation of 140 meters above sea level. Izzi LGA is well forested and has an average humidity level of 70 percent.


ECONOMY OF IZZI

Izzi LGA has a rich agricultural heritage and is known for the cultivation of crops such as yam, rice, cassava, sweet potato, bambara nut, and cocoyam in substantially large quantities. The area also has a vibrant trade sector and hosts a number of markets which provide the platforms for the exchange of a variety of goods and services. Other important economic activities in Izzi LGA include hunting and rearing of domestic animals such as goats and pigs.
