About Lere Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Lere local government area is domiciled in Kaduna state, North-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Saminaka and the LGA is made up of several towns and villages which include Garu, Maresu, Kadaru, Kaku, Wuroko, Kargi, Ukissa, and Woba. The estimated population of Lere LGA is put at 279,414 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Fulani ethnic group. The Fufulde language is widely spoken in the LGA while the religion of Islam is commonly practiced in the area. Lere LGA is the headquarters of the Lere Emirate while the Sarkin Lere is a prominent traditional ruler in the area.


GEOGRAPHY OF LERE

Lere LGA sits on a total area of 2,158 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 32 degrees centigrade. The total precipitation in the area is put at 1050 mm of rainfall per annum while the area witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons.


ECONOMY OF LERE

Trade is an important aspect of the economy of Lere LGA with the area hosting a number of markets where a variety of commodities are bought and sold and these include the Yarka Suwa and the Mariri markets. Farming is also an important activity in Lere LGA with a number of crops such as maize and cowpea grown in the area. Other important economic activities in Lere LGA include animal rearing and craftsmanship.
