About Kibiya Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Kibiya local government area is one of the forty-four LGAs found in Kano state, Northwest Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Kibiya. Kibiya LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Gingiya, Kure, Sanda, Dungu, Falange, Burmuni, Madachi, and Kadigana. The estimated population of Kibiya LGA is put at 211, 801 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Hausa and the Fulani ethnic groups. The Hausa language is commonly spoken in the area while the religion of Islam is predominantly practiced in the LGA. The paramount traditional ruler of Kibiya LGA is known as the Sarkin Kibiya and he oversees the traditional affairs of the area.


GEOGRAPHY OF KIBIYA

Kibiya LGA covers a total area of 404 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 33 degrees centigrade. The area witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons while the average wind speed in the area is 9 km/h.


ECONOMY OF KIBIYA

Farming is a key economic activity in Kibiya LGA with crops such as rice, millet, brown beans, and sorghum grown in large quantities within the area. The area is also a hub for the rearing and sales of a variety of domestic animals such as cows, rams, and camels. Trade also booms in Kibiya LGA with the area hosting a number of markets such as the Kibiya central market which provides the platform for the exchange of a variety of goods and services.
