About Gada Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Gada local government area is found in Sokoto state, Northwest Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Gada. The LGA shares boundaries with the Niger Republic and comprises of several towns and villages which include Kwarma, Gilbadi, Gada, Kadadi, kadassaka, kaddi, kiri, and kaffe. The estimated population of Gada LGA is put at 125,945 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Hausa and Fulani ethnic divisions. The Hausa and Fufulde languages are commonly spoken in the area while Islam is the widely practiced religion in the area.

 


GEOGRAPHY OF GADA

Gada LGA covers a total area of 1,315 square kilometres and witnesses two major seasons which are the rainy and the dry seasons. The average temperature of the area is 33 degrees centigrade while the wind speed in the area averages 11 km/h. The humidity level of the LGA averages 21 percent while the total precipitation of the area averages 950 mm of rainfall per annum.


ECONOMY OF GADA

Gada local government area is known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as onions, rice, sorghum, and millet. Animal rearing is also an important feature of the economic activities in Gada LGA with donkeys, rams, and cattle reared in the area. Trade is also a major economic engagement of the inhabitants of Gada LGA with the area hosting several markets such as the Gada International market where a variety of commodities are bought and sold by the dwellers of Gada LGA.
