About Bade Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Bade local government area is found in Yobe state which is in the Northeast geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Gashua while the area consists of a number of towns and villages which include Kumariya, Gashua, Dogona, Gabaruwa, Amshi, Azam, Gapchia, and Garinkura. The popular ethnic affiliations in Bade are the Bade and the Duwai sub-divisions with the Bade and Duwai languages also spoken within the area. Islam is the widely practiced religion in Bade local government area while important festivals in Bade LGA include the Bade fishing and cultural festival. Bade LGA has an illustrious Emirate superintended over by the Emir of Bade.


GEOGRAPHY OF BADE

Bade local government area covers a total area of 772 square kilometres with an average temperature of 32 degrees centigrade. Bade LGA is on the Nguru-Gashua wetlands and has a total annual estimated rainfall of 1300 mm. Bade LGA has number of rivers and tributaries which include the Yobe, Hadejia and the Ja’amare rivers.


ECONOMY OF BADE

Agriculture is the economic mainstay of the people of Bade local government area with crops such as millet, sorghum, corn, and groundnut grown in fairly large quantities. Trade is also an important economic feature of the area with markets such as the Garin Alkali Sunday market attracting hundreds of buyers and sellers. The area is also rich in Potash while a sizeable percentage of the population engage in cattle rearing.
