About Atakumosa East Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Atakumosa east is a local government area located in Osun state which is situated within the Southwest geopolitical enclave of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA area is at Iperindo while towns and villages such as Iwara, Igangan, Ipole, Ajebamidele, Iperindo, Araromi, Eti-oni, and Alerere constitute the local government area.

The dominant tribal affiliation in Atakumosa east is the Yoruba ethnic group while the Yoruba and English languages are widely spoken within the area. Christianity and Islam are the commonly practiced religions in Atakumosa east while the area hosts important indigenous festivals such as the Olokun festival, the Olugbo festival, and the Arake festival.


GEOGRAPHY OF ATAKUMOSA EAST

Atakumosa east LGA covers a total area of 238 square kilometres and features two distinct seasons; the dry season which usually comes between November-March and the rainy season which runs from around April-October. The average temperature of Atakumosa east LGA is 28.5 degrees centigrade while the humidity of the area is estimated at 59 percent.


ECONOMY OF ATAKUMOSA EAST

The major economic engagement of the people of Atakumosa east is Agriculture with crops such as plantain, banana, oil palm, cocoa and kolanut grown in fairly large quantities. Hunting is also a popular economic enterprise of the people of the area while commerce also thrives in the area with the presence of several markets such as the Atakumosa Central market.
