About Egbedore Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Egbedore local government area is located in Osun state, Southwest Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Awo. The towns and villages that make up Egbedore LGA include Kuleogbo, Ojo, Olokisa, Abogunde, Ijagemo, Seriki, Iwoye, and Iragberi. The estimated population of Egbedore local government area is put at 89,077 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is extensively spoken in the area while the Christian and Islam religions are widely practiced in the area.


GEOGRAPHY OF EGBEDORE

Egbedore LGA covers a total area of 270 square kilometres and witnesses two major seasons which are the dry season running from November to March and the rainy season which runs from April to October. The average temperature of the area is put at 29 degrees centigrade while the humidity level of the area averages 60 percent.


ECONOMY OF EGBEDORE

Egbedore LGA is mainly an Agrarian area with a number of crops such as cocoa, cassava, rice and maize cultivated in the area. Egbedore LGA is also home to several markets which include the Aje International market where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold.

HISTORY OF EGBEDORE

Egbedore local government area was created in the year 1989 from Ede local government area.
