About Rafi Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Rafi local government area is situated in Niger state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Kagara and the LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Tegina, Guna, Kusheri, Kwon Goma, Maikuyeri, Kofanpawa, Kwange, and Wayan. The estimated population of Rafi LGA is put at 215,892 inhabitants with the area mostly inhabited by members of the Ura, kambari, and kamuku ethnic groups. The Ura language is one of the spoken languages in Rafi LGA while the religions of Islam and Christianity are practiced in the area.


GEOGRAPHY OF RAFI

Rafi LGA covers a total area of 3,680 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 30 degrees centigrade. The LGA lies off the banks of the Kaduna River and has an average wind speed of 11 km/h.


ECONOMY OF RAFI

Rafi LGA has rich deposits of Lead and the mining of the mineral resource is one of the important economic activities in the LGA. Trade also blossoms in Rafi LGA with the area hosting several markets such as the Kowa market where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic enterprises in Rafi LGA include animal rearing, farming, and hunting.

HISTORY OF RAFI

Rafi LGA was created in the year 1976.
