Hon. Sodaguwo Festus-omoni

Hon. Sodaguwo Adegadiza Festus-omoni was born in 1955 to the family of Pa Omoni of Anyama community in Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. She is a land surveyor, women leader and politician who currently serves as a member of the Federal House of Representatives where she represents Ogbia Constituency.

Hon. Sodaguwo Festus-omoni Early Life

Hon. Sodaguwo began her education at Saint James' Primary School Anyama in Ogbia Local Government Area from 1960 to 1968. She thereafter obtained her Senior School Certificate at Holy Rosary Secondary School Port Harcourt, Rivers State in 1975. She thereafter in 1979 earned her Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Architectural Draughtsman/Civil Engineering from Denver Institute of Technology in the United States of America. She also obtained a certificate in Land Survey from Brinker School of Survey in the United States of America. Hon. Festus-Omoni also obtained a degree in Tourism Studies at the National Open University of Nigeria.

Hon. Sodaguwo Festus-omoni Career

Hon. Sodaguwo spent her early career in survey, administration and woman advocacy before joining politics in 1991. Also in 1991, she contested the Ogbia Constituency 2 seat in the then Rivers State House of Assembly under the National Republican Convention (NRC). In 2006, she was elected the Women Leader of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. In 2006, she contested and won the councillorship position under the platform of the People's Democratic Party to represent ward four in Ogbia Local Government Area.

Hon. Sodaguwo became the first female Vice Chairman of Ogbia Local Government Council in 2012 and held the same position until 2015 when she was elected under the platform of the People's Democratic Party to represent Ogbia Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives. She also became the first female House of Representatives member from Ogbia. She is a member of nine different Committees at the House of Representatives. She has also moved several bills, motions and petitions from the floor of the House.

Hon. Sodaguwo is married to Mr. Festus and blessed with children. She is the pioneer President of the Bayelsa State Female Aspirants Association.
