Mbong grew up in Aba, where she had her primary and secondary education at Federal Government Girls College, Calabar, Cross River state. She showed traits of modeling even while she was very little.

Mbong started her career as a model when she was 16 years old. She has starred in several films including, Black Gold, Champagne, Black November, Inhale and Forgetting June. . She has worked with casts like Vivica Fox, Clarion Chukwurah, Akon, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Wyclef Jean, Belinda Effah and Hakeem Kae-Kazim to name a few. In 2003, she was crowned as Miss Akwa Ibom and in 2004, she was the second runner-up for Miss Nigeria.

Mbog is a founder of a record label called “Bong House Media” and it has recently signed the rapper, Splash. She is known for her humanitarian nature which seeks for the improvement of humanity in Nigeria and in Africa as a whole. She is also the founder of the Tickle-Us Foundation, which aims to cater less privileged women and children in Nigeria and throughout Africa and being a helping hand in time of need.

Mbong Amata met her husband, prolific movie producer/director in Calabar during an audition in 2001. She got married to Jet Amata, a high-profile director and producer in 2008 and together, they have a daughter, Veno. They, however, separated in 2013 and divorced in 2014.

Amata is blossoming in her acting career in the movie industry in Nigeria and the mother of one is not ready to give up on her career. She clearly stated in an interview that she is not ready to get married in the near future in order to focus on her job. She lives in Los Angeles, California and Lagos, Nigeria. She is listed amongst the richest and sexiest leading ladies in Nollywood.
