Halima grew up in Kano where she attended Ideal Primary School. After her secondary education, she proceeded to Bayero University in Kano and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology.

In 2001, Halima joined the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) and began attending movie auditions. Her first movie was titled, Rejected, where she played a minor role. She however, rose to fame after playing the lead character in the popular Nollywood movie, Gangster Paradise. She has since been involved in over 150 Nollywood movies some of which include Slip of Fate, Tears of a Child, Secret Shadows, Gangster Paradise, Area Mama, Men in Love, Okafor’s Law, Men in Love, Return of White Hunters, Dangerous Ivy, and Entrapped.

Halima made her debut as an executive producer in the movie, Mistresses. She also starred alongside Yvonne Nelson in the mentioned movie. Halima is currently the CEO of a Modehouse Entertainment, a music label and entertainment management company. She also has a charity organisation, ‘Halima Abubakar Foundation for the Poor’, which focuses on people without food. She is currently the Kogi State youth ambassador.

In an interview with Vanguard, the actress once revealed that she has dated someone in Nollywood. She however didn’t disclose the lucky person’s identity. She draws her inspiration from no one, but from prayer. Halima loves to sleep, doesn’t smoke, and doesn’t club.

Halima is a survivor of depression. According to the actress, she was once depressed for about seven months. In April 2018, she revealed that in 2017, she was bedridden several times following complications encountered after a fibroid surgery in India, and that in March 2018, she was in coma for 3 days. According to her, her family thought she was gone, but God came through.
