Oke began her career when she was fourteen years old, as a junior reporter for the United Kingdom’s first talk radio station LBC. She worked for commercial radio all through school and university. When She graduated from Birmingham University, she joined the BBC as a radio reporter and producer. Since the late 1980’s she has worked for BBC television and radio, all the U.K. terrestrial television networks, Sky TV, Wire TV, National Geographic Channel and CNN. She joined CNN in 1999 and served there for nine years.

Previously, Femi also hosted the CNN International’s World Weather service. Moreover, she was also the host of Your World Today and World News. Right now she's based in Washington D.C. where she works for Al Jazeera English where she hosts The Stream. She is also the regular host of Inside Africa, which is currently presented by Errol Barnett.

She has wrestled with a crocodile in the mangroves of Jamaica, and reported from the frigid depths of a British Antarctic Survey refrigerator with temperatures plunging to minus 37 Fahrenheit.
