Didi Akinyelure Early Life

Born into a yoruba home, she schooled at Adesoye College, Offa, Kwara state between October 1993 and July 1999 before moving over to Cheltenham Ladies' College, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, where she completed her college education in 2001. In 2005, she graduated with a second class upper degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom.

Didi has presented, produced and edited television, radio and digital content for the BBC News at 10, BBC World News, BBC Focus on Africa, BBC Business Daily, BBC Newsday, and the BBC World Service. Prior to this, Didi spent 4 years as a Financial Journalist, anchoring and producing CNBC Africa’s live morning show “Open Exchange West Africa’. 

In September 2017, Didi was invited by the United Nations to interview delegates at the UN Convention to Combat Desertification in Ordos, China. Didi has built an impressive career as a Moderator and Speaker. In 2018, she moderated a special high level conversation on science and technology with Sir Roger Penrose and Nobel Laureate, Jacques Dubochet. She also moderated a panel on Entrepreneurship at London Business School’s Africa Summit.

Prior to this, Didi presented the BBC Africa Debate on Fake News in Malawi and the BBC Women in Digital Journalism panel at Social Media Week in Lagos. She chaired the Africa Construction Week in Munich, Germany, and the ministerial panel at the Africa Oil Week in Cape Town. She also hosted the University of Nottingham’s Africa Summit and moderated the West Africa Property Investment Summit, the ‘Lagos at 50’ International Conference, and the Lagos Kano Economic Summit.

Didi currently works as a Business Correspondent at Reuters based in Lagos. Between February 2018 and May 2018, she also presented the CNBC Europe’s IOT: Powering the Digital Economy and ‘Living on the Edge’ on the BBC World Service.  She was granted the first television interview with Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode. She has interviewed leaders in Government, Business and Entrepreneurs across Africa.

Didi got married to her husband, Akin Akinyelure, on July 10th, 2010. They have been blessed two children. Didi is a christian.
