Humblesmith - Ekenedilichukwu Ijemba

Ekenedilichukwu Ijemba, popularly known as Humblesmith was born on May 4, 1991 in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

He is the fourth son of eight children. His father was a stationery dealer while his mother was a teacher.

He adopted the  name 'Humblesmith' when someone mis-spelled his stage name which was originally 'Humblesmart' a combination of 'Humble' and 'smart'. He decided to keep the name after that day.

He grew up struggling through life by doing menial jobs like hawking moi-moi and dancing just to augment his parents source of income.

After he completed his secondary school in 2008 in Ebonyi State, he moved to Asaba, capital of Delta State, in the pursuit of his dream to become a music star. On arrival, having studied his environment for what was trending or selling, he made trending shoes, sandals, slippers, and belts and sold them to students and workers to make some money to pursue his music career and equally fend for himself. He did menial jobs like bricklaying and carrying sand and blocks for people that were building. At different times, he took up roles as an extra hand in some lacklustre Nollywood movies shot in the city and literally walked the streets hunting for shows in which he eventually performed free-of-charge.

His parents were initially not in support of his career choice as they believed that doing music as a career was for wayward people. His mother wanted him to become a Catholic priest while his father wanted him to be a footballer since he was a football coach. As time went on, his parents came to terms with the fact that music was what he wanted to do and so they had no choice but to support him.

 

Ekenedilichukwu Ijemba Career

While in secondary school, he started dancing and was part of a group called American Boys. The 'American Boys' danced, sang and acted. He decided to focus on music because his parents could not afford to sponsor him into the university.

He moved to Lagos in 2012 from Asaba and got signed to N-Tyze Entertainment in 2014. His first single under the label was  titled ‘Jamo'

In 2015, he released his second single titled ‘Osinachi’ which became an instant hit, bringing him into the limelight and since then, he has released several singles including Chairmoo, Na you, Bugatti,Shoki, Love me and Jukwese featuring Flavour N’abania in 2016.

The Headies Award nominated him as the ‘Rookie of the Year’ in 2015. His single 'Osinachi' got him nominated in the 'Best New Act' category at the 2016 edition of the Nigeria Entertainment Awards and 'Hottest Single' category at the same event.

He featured in some nollywood movies from his early days such as ‘Hypertension’ in 2010 with Mr. Ibu and late Sam Loco Efe.

In June 2016, Humblesmith signed a multi-million Naira endorsment with Tummy Tummy food industry making him their Ambassador.

The artist who stopped his eduaction at secondary level has indicated interest in going  back to school but only after he becomes financially stable.

On March 23 2016, Humblesmith was under fire from fans for unfollowing most of them on instagram, he has since come out to say that he only did that because it was what his label wanted.
