Sidney Onoriode Esiri (Dr SID) was born in Ikeja, Lagos state, Nigeria to Justus Esiri who was a Member of the Order of the Niger (MON), and famous for his role as the 'Village Headmaster' which was a Nigerian sitcom popular in the 1980s and his wife who was a successful fashion designer. He is the second of 4 children.

Sidney Onoriode Esiri Early Life

Dr SID had his Secondary education at the Nigerian Air force Secondary school ikeja before going on to the University of Ibadan (UI) to study Dental Surgery graduating in 2004.

After school, he travelled to the U.K for some time before returning to work at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, and then going on to serve his country at Yola in Adamawa state. He also worked at various dental clinics combining Dentistry and music.

During his school years, he had a flair for entertainment as he took part in school plays, dance competitions and concerts. Winning numerous awards along the way.

When he told his father he wanted to go into music, he hesitated, worried about the ups and downs of life but after seeing the amount of efforts Young SID put into his dream, he gave him his full support and went on to become one of his biggest fans before his passing.

Not wanting to be incubated by his father’s larger than life image, Young SID set about building his own brand and not worrying about filling his father's 'big shoes'.


Sidney Onoriode Esiri Career

In 1999, Dr SID signed on to the Trybe Records (which was founded by eLDee) as a choreographer. He spent the next three years after this touring as a backup dancer for the Trybesmen.

In 2002, he got his chance in front of the mic, when he was made a member of 'Da Trybe' and given a spot on the song that caused a revolution in Nigerian Hip-hop, 'Oya' in 2002 alongside Sasha, 2-Shotz, Timi, DEL, and the Trybesmen (Eldee, Kb and Freestyle).

Over the next year, Dr SID recorded his Debut Single 'Don’t Stop' and had the number 1 video on the MBI top ten for 8 weeks.

He moved to the UK in 2004, after his graduation from UI, working with the likes of JJC & the 419 squad, Felix Duke, KAS, R70 and D’Banj. He started recording a studio album in 2005 titled 'Prognosis' which featured the single 'Raise da roof'. He abandoned the album in 2006.

In 2007, Dr SID after 3 years made the tough decision to quit practicing dentistry and concentrate fully on his music career. He signed on to Don Jazzy’s Mo’ Hits Records and joined them to record the Mo’ Hits Allstars collective album 'Curriculum Vitae'(CV) which was released in December 2007. He featured on 7 of the 15 tracks released on the album, which include 'Booty Call' and 'Close to you'. 

In 2008, he went touring with the Mo'Hits Allstars, performing at some of the major concerts, including the 'Thisday Music Festival' and 'Star Mega Jam'.

In 2009, Dr SID started recording his first studio album as a solo artist under Mo’ Hits Records with producer Don Jazzy. The first single of the album 'Turning Point' was titled 'Something About You' and was released on September 2009 alongside two others, 'Winchi Winchi' ft Wande Coal and 'Pop Something' ft D’banj. In thesame year, he performed at the MTV Africa Music Awards in Kenya as a member of the Mo’ Hits Allstars alongside D’banj, Wande Coal and Kenyan artist STL.

On April 11 2012, Mo’ Hits released Dr SID’s debut album 'Turning Point'.

Following the fall out of the partners at Mo’ Hits Records, D’banj and Don Jazzy, Dr SID signed on to Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records and since then has gone on to become the President of Mavin Films after attending New York Film Academy where he polished off his filmmaking skills. He is also heading a production arm of the company.

Dr. Sid starred in Moses Inwang's 'The Last 3 Digits' playing an NYSC corp member and a friend to Nonso Diobi in the movie. The star studded movie won the People's Film Festival's Best International Film award in Paris, France. Dr Sid who refers to his ever loyal fans as the 'Alphas' has been nominated for several awards through the years including,

Sidney Onoriode Esiri Personal Life

In August 2014, he got married to his long-time girlfriend, Simisola Osomo and has a child with her.

It would be recalled that in the midst of the marital saga between Tiwa and her husband Teebillz had dragged Dr Sid into the picture, alleging that he slept with his wife. Dr sid however ignored this allegations as he was of the opinion that if someone calls you a thief and you are not one, then it should not bother you stating that Tiwa Savage is, and will always be, a good friend of his.

On April 18 2018, Sars operatives stopped Dr SID, suspecting him of being a yahoo boy but finding nothing implicating on him went on to seize his phone.They insulted and attempted to assault him physically before realizing their mistake.
