Fifi Ejindu

Princess Offiong Ekanem Ejindu (popularly known as Fifi Ejindu) was born in June 1962 in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, into a royal family. Her grandfather, King James Ekpo Bassey, was the traditional ruler of Cobham Town in Calabar while her father, Professor Sylvester Joseph Una, was a university professor at the University of Ibadan. She is a Nigerian architect, businesswoman and philanthropist.

Fifi Ejindu Early Life

Fifi attended the Senior Staff Primary School at the university campus of the University of Ibadan and later attended secondary school at Queens College, Yaba, Lagos. She graduated with a B.Arch from the prestigious Pratt Institute School of Architecture in Brooklyn, New York, and is the first black African woman to do so. She also has a Master's Degree in Urban Planning from the same Institiute.

Fifi Ejindu Career

On return to Nigria in 1995, Fifi established Starcrest Group of Companies. The company has three other branches; Starcrest Investment Ltd., Starcrest Associates Ltd. and Starcrest Industries Ltd which are involved in real estate, oil and gas, and building construction. Starcrest Investments has initiated investment forums in the U.A.E to attract foreign investors to Nigeria. The most successful one was on June 11th, 2012 when Fifi invited the former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, to lead a powerful Nigerian delegation to an investment forum with 50 of the most influential businessmen in the U.A.E. 

Fifi is also the founder of African Arts and Fashion Initiative which launched in August 2013, at The Dorchester Hotel, London. The aim of the initiative is to promote Africa as on the rise, showcasing its rich cultural heritage and talent globally, thereby creating opportunities to empower the youth of Africa. The emphasis is on driving an African Arts and Style Renaissance to mobilize, sensitize and most importantly empower the young talented designers and artists in Africa. They also organize exhibitions and forums to showcase and promote African Arts and Antiques, African Fashion and all things made in Africa.  AAFI print & publish journals and other materials on African Arts and Style.

She is a Honourary Patron Member of the Prestigious Icons Club of Dubai. Starcrest Associates, a subsidiary of Starcrest Group, predominantly works in the design and construction of residential villas and estates, offering services of architects, urban planners, engineers and interior designers, and are also involved in project management from inception to completion.

Fifi says her style of architecture is Neo-traditional, she further explains that it involves building new projects with new materials but with traditional and old style details and features. So most of her works revive the Renaissance period. She has been ranked as one of the female pioneers in the fields of Architecture and Business on an appearance on CNN’s African Voices; and she is also a member of the Nigerian National Heritage Council.

Fifi Ejindu Personal Life

Ejindu’s fiftieth birthday bash at the Burj Al Arab hotel in 2012 was the first known Nigerian party in that hotel which was then classified as the world’s only seven star hotel. Her son is also a graduate of Architecture and works with her at Stracrest Group in the Nigerian office.

• Fifi received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the African Achievers Awards at the African Arts and Fashion Banquet which was held at The Dorchester on Sunday, August 4th, 2013. The Africa Fashion Week London Life Patron was given the award for her contribution towards the promotion of African Arts and Fashion across the globe.
• In 2013, she was awarded the African Achievers African Arts and Fashion Lifetime Achievement award.
• She is also a proud winner of The Nigerian Golden Book Professional Icon Award, 2015.
