Achenyo Idachaba was born in 1968 in the United States of America to Professor Francis Suleman Idachaba, a world renowned agricultural economist, from Kogi State, Nigeria. She is an entrepreneur, speaker and founder of Mitimeth, a company which exploits weeds for profit.

Achenyo Idachaba Early Life

Although Achenyo visited Nigeria as a kid, she spent most of her early life in the United States. She attended the The International School, Ibadan, Oyo State. In 1984, she got admitted to the Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State, where she studied Computer Science and Economics, graduating with a degree in 1989. She graduated with a Master's degree from the Illinois State University in 1993. Achenyo also studied at the S.C. Johnson Graduate School of Management in Ithaca, New York. In 1998, she obtained an MBA from Cornell University, Ithaca.


Achenyo Idachaba Career

Achenyo joined Exxonmobil in 1998 and worked with the company until 2009 when she returned to Nigeria and settled in Ibadan. She began her firm Greennovative Chain in the same year. In 2011, she founded MitiMeth, where she currently serves as the company's creative director. MitiMeth seeks to transform environmental menace into profit. She realized that Water Hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes) which was recognized as an invasive weed could be harvested and transformed into products such as a waste basket and a table tidy. She received a grant from the government which has helped her employ more hands and grow the business. She has since featured on CNN and a 2015 Ted Talk which has almost 2 million views.

A devote Christian who draws her inspiration from the Bible, Achenyo currently lives in Ibadan, Oyo State. Her father, Professor Idachaba, passed away barely at the age of 71 years on Friday, August 15th, 2014.
