Ayo Ogunsheye Early Life

Ogunsheye attended St Gregory's College in Lagos. He thereafter moved to the United Kingdom for his tertiary institution. He obtained a BSc in Economics from London School of Economics, and an MSc from Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.

Ayo Ogunsheye Career

Ogunsheye began his career as a school teacher in 1941. He taught at the Department of Extra-Mural Studies, University College (University of Ibadan), and was Visiting Professor at Sorbonne University, Paris. He joined Henry Stephens, an indigenous conglomerate, where he eventually became Chairman. He had also earlier worked with Reuters.

He served as Assistant Secretary, Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) from 1946 to 1953. He was Professor of Adult Education, University of Ibadan, from 1965 to 1970 and was Dean, Faculty of Education at the same university.  In 1975, Prof. Ayo was a Founding Director, Rank Xerox Nigeria Limited. 

He served as Chairman of various industries such as; Rank Xerox Nigeria Limited from 1978 to 1987, National Bank Nigeria Limited, and O'dua Investments Company Limited, 1978. His membership includes Economic Planning Committee, defunct Western Nigeria, Economic Planning Committee, Federal Ministry of Economic Planning; former member, Governing Council, University of Ibadan and Governing Council, University of Benin.

Prof. Ayo is married to Prof Felicia Adetowun Ogunsheye, the first female professor in Nigeria. Together they have a son.
