Hon Yanusa attended Government Secondary School Kaltungo, Gombe State and graduated in 1977 with the General Certificate of Education (GCE). He proceeded to the polytechnic and graduated in 1990 with a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical Engineering.

Hon Yanusa worked as a Principal Engineer at Mo Works & Transport. He was a Managing Partner at Sabra Consultants and Managing Director at Sabra-Tech Nigeria Ltd.

As a politician, he was elected as a Member of the Gombe State House of Assembly representing Yamaltu-Deba from 2000 to 2003.

In 2015 he was elected under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to represent Yamaltu-Deba Federal Constituency at the National Assembly. His legislative interest include youth empowerment, education and communication. He is a member of the House Committee on Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).
