About Nembe Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Nembe local government area is one of the eight LGA s found in Bayelsa state, South-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Nembe and the LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Odekiri, Ikensi, Benkiri, Mini, Agada, Obiama, Otumakiri, and Tombi. The estimated population of Nembe LGA is put at 197,682 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Ijaw ethnic group. The Ijaw language is commonly spoken in the area while the religion of Christianity is widely practiced in the area. The traditional administrator of Nembe LGA is known as the Amanyanabo of Nembe kingdom while notable landmarks in the LGA include the Edumanom National forest and the Nembe City Stadium, Ogbolomabinan.


GEOGRAPHY OF NEMBE

Nembe LGA sits on a total area of 760 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 25 degrees centigrade. The area is well forested and has an average humidity level of 82 percent. Nembe LGA hosts several streams and rivers with total precipitation in the LGA put at an estimated 3150 mm of rainfall per annum.


ECONOMY OF NEMBE

Nembe LGA is rich in reserves of crude oil and natural gas and has the presence of a number of oil mining firms. Fishing is also an important economic activity in Nembe LGA with the area’s rivers and tributaries being rich in seafood. Other important economic enterprises undertaken by the people of Nembe LGA include farming, trade, and the making of fishing nets and canoes.
