Anthony Nwakaeme was born on March 21st, 1989 in Lagos, Nigeria. Popularly known as Tony, he is a professional footballer who plays as a striker for  for Hapoel Be'er Sheva in the Israeli Premier League, and the Nigerian national team.

Anthony Nwakaeme Early Life

Originaliy an Igbo boy, Tony grew up in Ajegunle, the popular ghetto in the Apapa suburb of Lagos. He began his journey on the streets of Lagos, and as a typical Ajegunle Boy, the White Sand Field. He later on joined Sao Paolo FC, a football academy in Ajegunle. From Sao Paolo, he moved to Patros of Tolu and from there Vejle Football Academy, in 2006, a travelling team that helped him move to Europe.


Anthony Nwakaeme Career

Tony first moved to Denmark but soon returned home. The Denmark trip was a misadventure as Vejle Kolding, the club he signed for, played two seasons in the Danish 1st Division before being dissolved in 2013. He went to Sweden and had to return to Nigeria again. After a while however, he returned to Europe, this time around to Italy. He met the father of Materazzi in Italy, who introduced him to a manager who later on took him to Romania. In Romania, he started from the second division because the coach said he was not good enough for the first division. But after scoring eight goals in five matches, he was moved back to the first division.

In January 2011, Anthony moved to Universitatea Cluj and his most productive season came in 2011–12. He spent two seasons there and scored 13 goals in 55 appearances. In the 2012–13 season, he spent the first half at Petrolul Ploiesti, And played only 3 games. On 13 August 2013 he signed to Hapoel Ra'anana. On August 31, he scored a goal on his Israeli Premier League debut, a 1–1 draw against Hapoel Haifa. From there he moved to my current club, Hapoel Beer-Sheva FC where he has found a home. At Beer-Sheva, he has won a total of 5 trophies in two seasons including the Israeli Premier League (2015/2016 and 2016/2017), the  Israel Super Cup ( 2016 and 2017) and the Toto Cup (2016/2017).

On 10 November 2017 he made his debut for the Nigeria national football team against Algeria in a 1–1 draw.


Anthony Nwakaeme Personal Life

Tony has four siblings; a brother and three sisters. His older brother, Dickson Nwakaeme, is also a professional footballer and plays for Angers SCO of France. Their Father died when they were little and had to be taken care of by their mother whom Anthony calls his support. He is a Christian and single. He loves Nigerian musics and his favourite artist is 2face Idibia. He also loves Ajegunle music and dances well to them.
