Chukwudi Odiah (popularly called Chidi Odiah), was born in Porth Harcourt, Rivers State, on December 17th, 1983. During his days as a formidable footballer, Odiah mastered the right back position with his pace and strong defensive prowess. He featured at several international competitions including African Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup.

Born into an Igbo family in Port Harcourt, Odiah completed his primary and seconday schools in th city. While in school, he developed interest in football and represented his school at different tournaments. He soon joined Eagle Cement, a football academy which metamorphosed into Dolphins FC, now Rivers United.


Chidi Odiah Career

Between 1998 and 2000, Odiah featured in the Nigerian Premier League with two prominent clubs, Dophins FC and Julius Berger. In the summer of 2000, he moved abroad to join Footbal Club Sheriff, commonly known as Sheriff Tiraspol or simply Sheriff, a Moldovan football club based in Tiraspol. He spent four years in Tiraspol winning the Moldovan National Division four times in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. He also won the Moldovan Cup in 2001 and 2002, and the Moldovan Super Cup and CIS Cup in 2003. His dominant displays caught the eye of numerous clubs across Europe and soon Russian giants CSKA Moscow were on his trail. H signed a four year contract with the club in 2004. His performances in Russia were never short of expectations as he regularly held a first team place for the eight years he spent at the club. His first season was remarkable as he won the treble with CSKA including the Russian Premier League, Russian Cup, and the UEFA Cup. He won other numerous trophies with CSKA including; Russian Premier League in 2006, Russian Cup in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2011, and Russian Super Cup in 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2009. He was released by CSKA at the expiration of his contract in 2012. After spending a three year break from football copuled with rumors of retirement, he rejoined his former club Julius Berger in 2015.

Before playing for the Super Eagles, Odiah represented Nigeria at different age grade competitions. He was part of the U-17 team that won the African U-17 Championship. He received his first international cap against Zimbabawe in September 2004, before going on to feature at two African Cup of Nations in 2006 and 2010, winning the bronze medal at both events. His last appearance was at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.


Chidi Odiah Personal Life

Odiah allegedly dumped his wife Uju Uzuegbunam and three month-old baby, Kenzo, in September 2011. When quizzed, he refused to comment rather saying, "I am not interested in hearing whether good or bad. I did not ask for your opinion. Uju and Kenzo are my wife and son and I have every right to deal with them as I like."

In 2013, Odiah denied a report that he was now a taxi driver in the US. The rumour surfaced after He was released by CSKA and temporary out of the game. Denying the news he said, "I am taking this rebuttal path due to the hurt that story has caused my friends and family members. With due respect to taxi drivers whose means of livelihood are through that means, I state, emphatically, that I am not a taxi driver neither am I in the United States of America."
