Murphy Ijemba (popularly known as Radio Paparazzi, Eager, and Radio Bulldozer) was born in Mushin, a suburb of Lagos, Nigeria on May 30th.

Murphy Ijemba Early Life

Murphy grew up in Mushin whre he had his primary and secondary education where he was a member of Cultural and Drama group. Haven lost his Father when he was about three or four years old, he was raised by his mother, who had three children, and his grandfather. Speaking during an interview, he shared experiences of his childhood. "Mushin is a very tough place. The street was not forgiven, anything you do or fail to do has its own punishment and its own credits as well. So, Mushin was like a battle field for me. Most times, I go through hard things now that won’t even shake me because I’ve been through them before. Mushin, I’m so sure would be ranked among the toughest hoods across the world; not only in Nigeria. I had some very good friends growing up and some bad ones as well."

Because he did not want to end up as a tout, Murphy asked his mother to take him out of Mushin to live with his mother’s elder brother’s in Alaba, from there he spent time in Enugu, Benin and Abuja. 

He studied accountancy at Bayero University, Kano, where he was a member of Student Union Government (SUG). He sold chicken while in the University to support his education. 


Murphy Ijemba Career

As a member of Student Union Government, Murphy went for an excursion at Ray Power, Daar Communications during the SUG week. He was the spokesperson for his group who got interviewed on TV and on radio by Mallam Dikko, then the Head of Daar Communications in Kano. Haven been encouraged by Murphy's good voice and mannerism, he asked, “Why don’t you give a shot at presenting?” At that time, RayPower was looking for a sports presenter and Murphy was immediately hired to fill the role. He also got into TV and hosted an entertainment show called ‘Next Level’ on AIT. He left Raypower  where he worked for five years few months after it got burnt.

George Essien informed Murphy about an audition in Brila FM when he told him he needed a job. Altough he got to the audition late, he eventually got the job as he resumed the next day. That was in 2011. Before he resumed at Brila FM, he ealier got a job at Eko FM with a better salary but he rejected the offer due to a probation attached to it. After a controversy with Dr. Larry Izamoje of Brila, Murphy and his co-host, Sean Amadi left the station on September 5th, 2017.

A month after leaving Brila, he joined Max FM (Formerly Radio Continental) in Lagos where he hosts the drive time show called ‘Max Drive’. He also anchors the Rush Hour show on Metro 97.7 FM between 5pm and 7pm on weekdays. Murphy is the brand ambassador for 360Bet and Zutasia, and a member of the Nigeria Guild of Actors.


Murphy Ijemba Personal Life

Murphy speaks Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa fluently. He stopped smoking cigarettes in Secondary school when his mother caught him. His favourite food is amala with Gbegiri and Ewedu with assorted meat. 

Commenting on rumours of him being a womanizer, he said, "’m not a womaniser but I would say I love them big. A perfect example of a woman I like is, although she is married now but making instances, the person is Toolz of Cool FM. The person must be heavy, thick, everything covered, pumped up, as in every part touchable."

The sports show host has won numerous awards over the years, some of which include:

  • Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards for Most popular radio Sportscasters award (2012 and 2013)
  • Nigerian Broadcasters’ Nite for Most Popular Radio Sportscasters (2015)
  • In 2016, he was nominated for the Football Journalist of The Year award at the 3rd Nigeria Pitch Awards
