Derek Ugochukwu Osonwa(DeKumzy) is a Record Producer, Musician, Composer,Band director, Pianist and Song writer. He is the second of four boys.

When he decided to go into music, his parents did not support him because they thought he wanted to go into a Fellowship or a Highlife band.

DeKumzy who studied Electrical Electronics in school became active in Music when he joined the Federal Ex - Students Christian Association(FECA) in the year 2000. He joined the Choir and started playing the Keyboard.

Derek Osonwa Career

Professionally, he started making music in 2006 and his first production was the album 'Chinweike' by Resonance. He then worked on Nigga Raw's first and second albums. He left Enugu in search of greener pastures after producing 'Yori Yori' therby launching the career of the Bracket duo.

Coming to Abuja, he helped Charly boy and Dr. Alban relaunch their careers by producing the song 'The Charly boy on the loose' and has gone on since then to produce hits like 'Baby Oku' by Flavour N'abania, 'Strong and Mighty' by Nigga Raw featuring Flavour N'abania, 'Carolina Remix' by Dr. Alban featuring Charly Boy, 'No Time' by Bracket featuring P-Square and 'Yori Yori' remix by Bracket ft 2Baba.

In 2007, he started making Soundtracks and Scoring Nollywood movies and has scored over 20 Nollywood movies to date.

He founded the now defunct girl band trio 'Desperate chicks' which was made up of Stormrex, Ursula Ice and Barbie.

He is married to Mary Ursula who was Desperate Chick's lead singer and they have two sons.
