Jesse Jagz (Jesse Garba Abaga) is a native of Jukun in Taraba State, Nigeria. He was born on August 29, 1984 to clergymen. His brothers are M.I and Jason.

He grew up in Jos, Plateau state in a music-filled environment where both parents gave him access to the church choir and drums set by age 7.
He went to the university to study law but dropped out in his fourth year because he missed so many classes, spending days and nights recording in the studio.
Jesse Jagz has been described as Nigeria’s Kanye West because of his flirtatious experimentation with different genres of music from R&B to Reggae to Pop all built on a predominantly Hip hop foundation.
He recorded his first album with a group named 'Gospel Insanity' but the album never got released due to fall out of some of the members. Jesse thereafter started producing beats professionally and formed another group, 'Eleven Thirty' which quickly became a huge success in Jos.
In 2004, he hooked up with his brother Jude Abaga, otherwise known as MI and together they started Inner Hub Studios.
By 2006, Jesse started a solo career with a debut-hit 'Africa' that remained at #1 on the Cool FM chart for months and put him in the limelight.
Between 2006 and 2007, Jesse Jagz had three songs simultaneously dominating the top ten charts on Cool FM, RayPower FM as well as Rhythm FM, becoming street anthems in and around the north of Nigeria.
His debut music video, 'Pump It Up', was released in November 2009 and got him positive reviews.
Jesse Jagz has four albums to his name – 'Jag Of All Trades' which was released in 2010 under Chocolate city, 'Jagz Nation, Vol 1. Thy Nation Come' in 2013, which was his first album as an independent artist and was released under Jagz nation, 'Jagz Nation Vol. 2: Royal Niger Company' in 2014 and 'Odysseus' in 2017.
Prior to the Odysseus' release, Jagz released a number of singles in 2017 including 'Midnight vibes', 'Best in you' and 'New world'. The album is his first body of work since his second exit and supposedly contains all the creativity that Chocolate city could not allow with guest features from Burna Boy, Styl-Plus, Cynthia Morgan, Melon, R2Bees, and Hot Ice.
Jesse Jagz who was signed to Chocolate City took a walk away from the label in 2013, rejoined in 2015 and split again in 2016 to focus on his Jagz Nation imprint.
He has worked with a wide range of artists, M.I, Ice Prince, Majek Fashek, Banky W, Shank, WizKid , Fela Kuti and several others and his hit singles 'Wetin Dey', 'Pump It Up' and 'Nobody Test Me', in which he featured Ice Prince and his brother M.I (both rap artist), were chart toppers around the whole country. 'My Brother' which was another hit single was selected as part of the International Music Entrepreneur of the Year (IYMEY), 2008 compilation.

Jagz attributed his departure from the Chocolate City to his dissatisfaction with the way the label was handling his career but has maintained a cordial relationship with his former label mates, dismissing the rumours that he had a beef with the label.
