About Ebonyi Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ebonyi local government area is in Ebonyi state, Sooutheast geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Ugbodo. The LGA comprises of towns and villages that include Amachi, Izzi Unuhu, Ishieke, Edda, Amagu, Nkaleke, Achara, and Okpui-Tumo. The population of Ebonyi local government area is put at 154,881 inhabitants with the dominant tribe in the area being the Igbo. The Igbo and English languages are widely spoken in the area while Christianity is the widely practiced religion in the area.


GEOGRAPHY OF EBONYI

Ebonyi local government area covers a total area of 443 square kilometres and witnesses two major seasons which are the rainy and the dry seasons. The average temperature in Ebonyi LGA is put at 28 degrees centigrade while the humidity of the area is at 69 percent.


ECONOMY OF EBONYI

Ebonyi LGA is predominantly an Agrarian area with crops such as rice, yam, maize, and cassava grown in substantially large quantities. The LGA has several rice mills and also has a number of minerals which include salt, limestone, gypsum, and granite. Trade is also an important part of the economic features of the Ebonyi LGA with the area hosting several markets which include the Ebonyi Regional Market.
