About Ohaozara Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ohaozara local government area is domiciled in Ebonyi state, South-east geopolitical enclave of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Obiozara Uburu and the LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Uburu, Okoposi, Ugwulangwu, Akaeze, Ishiagu, Amaokwe, Umuobor, and Amachi. The current estimated population of Ohaozara LGA is put at 169,404 inhabitants with the area being majorly inhabited by members of the Igbo ethnic group. The Igbo language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and traditionalism are practiced in the area. Popular festivals held in Ohaozara LGA include the Aju festival while the notable landmarks in the area include the Uburu School of Nursing.


GEOGRAPHY OF OHAOZARA

Ohaozara LGA occupies a total area of 312 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The area witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons while the average wind speed in the area is at an estimated 9 km/h.


ECONOMY OF OHAOZARA

Ohaozara LGA is richly endowed with salt deposits and the mining and refining of the mineral are key economic activities in the LGA. Farming is also a critical economic engagement of the dwellers of Ohaozara LGA with crops such as yam, cassava, rice, and maize grown in appreciable quantities within the LGA. Other important features of the economy of Ohaozara include trade and hunting.
