Kenneth Josiah Omeruo was born on October 17th, 1993 in Abia State. He is a professional footballer who plays for Kasimpasa FC of Turkey where he is on loan from English side Chelsea, and the Nigerian national team.

Kenneth Omeruo Early Life

Omeruo grew up in South East Nigeria, and began playing football in his parent's sitting room. It was there the dream to make a career out of football was birthed. Bouyed by his mother's support, he played for his school's team, featuring in several shell cup and grassroot competitions.


Kenneth Omeruo Career

Beginning from Nigeria, Omeruo had spells with Sunshine Stars of Akure before moving abroad to Anderlecht Academy. From there, he moved to Standard Liege of Belgium and in January 2012 was signed by Chelsea.

His time at Chelsea has been characterised by several loan spells. Immediately after signing for Chelsea, he was loaned out to the Dutch league to play for ADO Den Haag where he made his debut on March 3rd, 2012.

On April 28th, 2012, Omeruo set a record of being the only player to score a goal, an own goal and receive a red card in a one match in the Eredivisie. The match was againt VVV Venlo. On January 7, 2014, he joined Middlesbrough of England on another loan deal. He also rejoined the team on loan for the entitre 2014/2015 season.

On July 2015, he joined Kasimpasa on a season long loan with an option to purchase  at the end of the spell. On August 2016, he joined Alanyaspor on loan for the whole season. After signing a three year contract extension with Chelsea, he rejoined Kasimpasa on August 25, 2017 on a season long loan.

At the international level, he first featured for Nigeria as an U-20 during the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia with the team reaching the quarter finals. He made his senior debut as a 19 year old on January 9, 2013. He also won the 2013 African Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles playing all seven games for the team in the tournament. He also played at the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2014 FIFA World Cup both in Brazil. As a versatile defender who plays centrally and as a right full back, Omeruo has featured in over 140 games for club and country.


Kenneth Omeruo Personal Life

Omeruo has a brother, Lucky, also a footballer and plays for Nigeria's Rangers Football Club of Enugu. On December 30, 2017, he got married to Chioma Nnamani, a graduate of Enugu State University (ESUT).

Kenneth Omeruo Awards

After winning the African Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles in 2013, he was awarded the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) by former president Goodluck Jonathan.
