Abdukareem Adebisi Bamdele Akande, popularly known as Bisi Akande, was born in Ila Orogun, Ila local government area of Osun State, Nigeria, on January 16th 1939. He was a governor of Osun State, Nigeria from 1999 to 2003 and was the first interim Chairman of the All Progressives CongresS.

Akande was deputy governor of Oyo State between 1979 and 1983 when Bola Ige was governor (Osun State was formerly part of Oyo State). He was elected on the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) platform. Akande was described as the nephew of Chief Bola Ige.

Akande became the governor of Osun State in April 1999 under the platform of Alliance for Democracy (AD) party. He contested again in 2003 after the end of his first term, but was defeated by Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). He is currently a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC).


Bisi Akande Personal Life

In 1966, Akande got married to Omowunmi Akande. She died on, Tuesday, July 12th, 2017 at the University College Hospital in Ibadan. She was aged 73. Among the children of the couple are Dr. Wuraola Solabi, who married in June 2017 in Ibadan and Osun State Commissioner for Health, Dr Temitope Ilori.
