Iniobong Edo Ekim (popularly known as Ini Edo) was born on April 19th, 1982 in Calabar, Cross River state, Nigeria into a family of four. She is a Nigerian actress.

Ini Edo Early Life

Ini Edo is an Ibibio from Onna Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom state. She is the second born in a family of four – one elder cousin whom she considers her elder sister, a younger brother and a younger sister. Her sister works at a brewery in Ogun State, Ota. Her father was a church elder while her mother was a school teacher. She was brought up in a strict and very religious environment, which saw to it that she grew into the nice girl we all love.

Growing up, she was the most stubborn child in her family, even though her parents positioned a close eye on her just to ensure that she didn’t lose direction. Ini who grew up in Calabar attended Cornelius Connely College, after which she attended the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom, and got a diploma in Theatre Arts. She then proceeded to the University of Calabar where she got a degree in English Language.

Ini Edo Career

Her foray in Nollywood started during a school strike, when she went with a friend to an audition. She got the role in the film ‘Child of Destiny’. However her breakout role came when she acted in the film, ‘World Apart’(2004) and since then she has not looked back, going on to act in more than 100 films such as ‘Games women Play’ Games Men Play and the sequel ‘Reloaded’.

With over 150 movies, tons of endorsements and other endeavors Ini Edo is basking in riches amounting to an estimated net worth of 60 million Naira. Some of her endorsements include a deal with Noble Hair, Slim Tea, GLO brand ambassadorial deal which lasted for 10 years, and many others. She also signed a deal to be the Face of Chivita, the popular juice manufacturers. Ini opened a new chapter in her career when she executive produced the film, ‘Memories of my Heart’.

Alongside Ramsey Nouah and another star from Bollywood, Vikram Vinod, Ini Edo was appointed by the executive director of the new United Nation Habitat Youth Envoys as a youth ambassador in 2011. According to the director, the appointed stars were supposed to participate in urban issues and, at the same time, help the UN body improve the lives of youths all over the world. She was featured as a judge in the 2013 Miss Black Beauty pageant in the UK. In 2013, this world-renowned Nollywood star was announced as one of the judges in the 2013 Miss Black UK Beauty pageant. She was appointed as The Special Assistant To The Akwa Ibom State Governor on Culture And Tourism by Udom Gabriel Emmanuel in 2016.

Ini Edo Personal Life

In November 2008, Ini and a US Based Nigerian Businessman, Phillip Ehiagwina, officially got married in a church wedding in Nigeria and in February the following year, the wedding was repeated in Houston, Texas where her husband resides. But it did nothing to save her marriage. The 6-year marriage crashed in 2014 and the former Mrs. Ehiagwina cited “irreconcilable differences” as the major reason for her divorce and denied claims that she had cheated on her husband. The beautiful actress was rumored to have snatched her husband from Ruth Okoro who was formerly married to Phillip Ehiagwina.

She owns a house in Lekki, Lagos said to cost up to 70 million Naira. She also has some quite expensive cars to her name and loves clubbing.

The Nollywood diva has been honoured with several awards including Best Actress Leading Role (Yoruba) at 2009 Best of Nollywood Awards and Best Actress Indigenous at Zulu African Film Academy Awards and many more. The ravishing Nollywood queen was announced as a judge for the Miss Black Africa Uk Pageant in 2013. The United Nations appointed her as the United Nations Habitat Youth Envoy as a result of her philanthropic gestures.
