Chinedu Izuchukwu Okoli popularly known by his stage name Flavour N’abania, or simply Flavour was born on November 23, 1983 in Enugu State, Nigeria to Elder Benjamin Onyemaechi Okoli. He has three sisters with a younger brother, DJ Derekz whoose real name is Okoli Chidera Emmanuel. He is the first son of a large family, four siblings and seven step siblings.

Flavour’s family were initially not in support of his musical ambitions, dismissing it as a pipe dream. His mother in particular believed that his musical ambitions would not amount to anything. He ran away from home when he was 13 due to his parents' disapproval of a career in music.

Flavour, who is well known for his ability to sing fluently in the Igbo language is a prolific Nigerian recording artist, dancer, songwriter, and performer.

Flavour's career started when his resident pastor after noticing how good he was with the drums while playing for his church choir in Enugu introduced him to a friend, Chris I Ordor, the CEO of SoundCity Communications who at the time had just started a musical company aimed at training young musicians on the basics of music and nurturing them all the way to a professional level.

In 1996, Flavour was invited to join the company on an educational scholarship to study music.

In 1999, Flavour moved on from playing the drums and started playing the keyboard. He also used to provide backing vocals for other musicians at SoundCity. Grooming his singing talent by performing regularly at local bars.

At the age of 19, Flavour emerged unto Nigeria’s musical scene as a drummer and pianist for a local Enugu band. After learning to play drums professionally, Flavour received an offer to perform at City Centre, Enugu. The massive crowd at City Centre inspired him to gain new grounds and reach greater heights.

His educational background in music enabled him to learn music production from Dekumzy, Isi Charles and Nnachie.

In 2005, he released his debut album 'N’abania' through Obaino music.The album was recorded at Kingsley Ogoro's studio in Lagos, Nigeria but its success was relative and limited to Eastern Nigeria, particularly, Enugu State.

In 2010, five years after the release of the first album, Flavour released his second studio album 'Uplifted' under Lolhiphop Records, an established record label in South Africa.The album’s top singles include 'Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix)', 'Adamma' and 'Oyi Remix' featuring Tiwa Savage. While working on the album, He believed the album would surpass his previous works. and his projection came true when the album broke national barriers. The album’s success made Flavour one of Africa’s most sought out artists. Flavour was booked to perform at numerous concerts and social events following Uplifted’s release.

On 18 October 2012, he released a third album, 'Blessed' through 2nite Entertainment and iROCKING LTD.It was launched on the same day as Flavour’s 2nite Club grand opening.

On December 2014, Flavour released his fourth album, 'Thankful' and on June 27, 2017 he released his fifth album 'Ijele the Traveller'.

Flavour has had collaborations with musicians like Nigga Raw, Tiwa Savage, Bracket, Chidimma and others.

Flavour’s hit albums has gotten him nominations including but not limited to:

  • 2011 Channel O Music Video Awards for Most Gifted Afro-Pop video and Most Gifted African West video for 'NwaBaby (Ashawo Remix)  
  • 2012 Nigeria Music Video Awards for Best Highlife for 'Kwarikwa'
  • 2013 Ghana Music Awards for African artiste of the year
  • 2013 City People Entertainment Awards for Male Musician of the year
  • 2013 Nigeria Entertainment for Best Indegenous Artist/Group

in 2016, Flavour was announced as brand ambassador for the leading South - east beer brand, Life Continental Beer.


Chinedu Okoli Personal Life

Flavour has joined the league of musicians with “Babymamas”. He had his first child from Delta soap model Sandra Okagbue and the second from Ex beauty queen Anna Banner.

On 29 August 2012, Nigerian Entertainment Today reported that Flavour N’abania was involved in a legal battle with Ghanaian singing duo 'Wutah' over the alleged theft of 'Kwarikwa' which they said is an exact replica of 'Kotosa', in rhythm, chorus and tempo and a song by the duo.

Flavour Nabania had five dogs, 2Pac, Miley, JayZ, Major Banks and Nikki but unfortunately, 2Pac died recently.
