About Oredo Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Oredo local government area is domiciled in Edo state, South-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Benin City with the LGA made up of several districts such as Ekehuan, Orogo, Abiala, Gelegele, Ibaro, Igbobi, Ikpako, and Oduna. The estimated population of Oredo LGA is put at 295,818 inhabitants with the area hosting members of diverse ethnic groups. The Bini and English languages are commonly spoken in the LGA whilethe religions of Islam and Christianity are practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Oredo LGA include the Palace of the Oba of Benin, the Edo state Government House, and the National Museum.


GEOGRAPHY OF OREDO

Oredo LGA covers a total area of 249 square kilometres and has an average wind speed of 10 km/h. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the average humidity level in the area put at 61 percent.


ECONOMY OF OREDO

Oredo LGA has a vibrant trade sector and hosts several markets such as the Ekiosa, Edaiken, and Oba markets. The LGA also hosts several banks, government establishments, hotels, restaurants, relaxation spots, industries and privately owned firms with all these contributing to the economy of the LGA. Oredo LGA is also known for its rich wood carving industry with the area hosting the popular Igbesamwan wood carvers.
