About Ovia South West Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ovia Southwest local government area is situated in Edo state, South-south geopolitical division of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Iguobazuwa and the LGA comprises of several towns and villages which include Siluko, Umaza, Ofunama, Ora, Usen, Umaza, Ugbogue, and Iguobazuwa. The estimated population of Ovia South-west LGA is put at 312,608 inhabitants with the area mostly inhabited by members of the Bini and Ijaw ethnic groups. The Bini language is commonly spoken in the area while the religions of Christianity and Islam are practiced in the LGA. Prominent traditional rulers in Ovia Southwest LGA include the Iyasere of Ofunama while notable landmarks in the LGA include the Okomu oil palm company plc.

Ovia Southwest LGA covers a total area of 2863 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the average humidity level in the LGA put at 52 percent.


ECONOMY OF OVIA SOUTH WEST

Ovia Southwest LGA has a vibrant trade sector with the area hosting several markets such as the Ugbogui market where a plethora of commodities are bought and sold. There are also a number of industries, hotels, and government establishments in Ovia Southwest LGA. Other important economic enterprises in Ovia Southwest LGA include food processing, farming, and lumbering.
