About Akwanga Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Akwanga local government area is found in Nasarawa state which is located within the Northcentral geopolitical zone of Nigeria. With its headquarters in the town of Akwanga, the LGA is made up of several towns and villages which include Andaha, Gwanje, Akwanga, Gueli, Nunku, Anjida, and Boher. The population of Akwanga LGA is estimated at around 93,708 inhabitants with Christianity and Islam as the major religious affiliations in the area.

Hausa and English languages are also commonly spoken in Akwanga local government area. Prominent festivals held in Akwanga LGA include the Nzeh Mada  festival while important landmarks in the area include the Nasarawa state college of Education and the NACABS polytechnic.


GEOGRAPHY OF AKWANGA

Akwanga LGA covers a total area of 996 km squared with wind speed averaging 10km/h. The average temperature of the area is 29 degrees centigrade while humidity is pegged at 62 percent. The landscape of Akwanga LGA is dotted with several hills of varying elevations which include the very popular Mada hills.


ECONOMY OF AKWANGA

Agriculture is an important economic feature of the dwellers of Akwanga local government area with crops such as cotton, rubber and yam grown in substantial quantities within the area. Commerce also thrives in Akwanga LGA with markets such as the Akwanga Modern market and the Nigha central market attracting thousands of buyers and sellers. Cattle rearing is another economic activity found in Akwanga and this is majorly done by the Fulani dwellers of the area.
