About Lafia Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Lafialocal government area is in Nasarawa state, North-central Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Lafia. The LGA which doubles as the capital city of Nasarawa state consists of several districts such as Agudu, Bassa, Gayam, Wakwa, Gimare, and Alakyo. The estimated population of Lafia LGA is put at 398,471 inhabitants with the area due to its cosmopolitan nature hosting members of diverse ethnic affiliations. The Hausa and the English languages are spoken in Lafia LGA while the religions of islam and Christianity are practiced in the area. Lafia LGA is home to the Lafia Emirate and has a number of notable landmarks such as the Nasarawa state polytechnic and the Lafia Township stadium.


GEOGRAPHY OF LAFIA

Lafia LGA has an average temperature of 30 degrees centigrade and witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The LGA has a Tropical Savannah climate with the  average humidity level put at 40 percent while the average wind speed in the area is estimated at 11 km/h.


ECONOMY OF LAFIA

Lafia LGA hosts a number of banks, hotels, industries, and several government owned institutions and these contribute immensely to the economic development of the LGA. Trade also flourishes in the area with the LGA hosting several markets such as the Lafia Modern market where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic activities indulged in by people of Lafia LGA include welding, wood work, and craftsmanship.
