About Toto Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Toto local government area is domiciled in Nasarawa state, North-central geopolitical enclave of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Toto with the LGA made up of several towns and villages such as Gada, Toto, Umaisha, Ugya, Ajurawa, Gate, Karbana, Zono, and Ladaya. The current estimated population of Toto LGA is put at 191,839 inhabitants with the area majorly occupied by members of the Ebira and Bassa ethnic divisions. The Ebira and Bassa languages are commonly spoken in Toto LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are widely practiced in the area. Toto LGA hosts the Toto Emirate and witnesses a number of festivals which include the Ogani fishing festival, the Shafa-Abakpa, and the Irewha hunting festivals. Prominent traditional rulers in Toto LGA include the Ohinoyi Ogye of the Ogye Chiefdom.

Toto LGA occupies a total area of 2,903 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 31 degrees centigrade. The LGA has a tropical wet and dry climate and witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The average wind speed in Toto LGA is put at 11 km/h.


ECONOMY OF TOTO

Toto LGA is a hub for hunting with the area’s bushes and forests being laden with a variety of animals. Trade also flourishes in Toto LGA with the area hosting several markets which provide platforms for the exchange of a variety of goods and services. Other important economic activities engaged in by the people of Toto LGA include farming, animal rearing, and wood carving.
