Richard Evans Eyimofe Damijo ((popularly known as Richard Mofe-Damijo or simply RMD) was born on July 6th, 1961 in Aladja community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria. A man of many parts, RMD is a writer, lawyer, creative content creator, producer, life-coach, public speaker, showbiz impresario, amongst other talents.

Richard Mofe Damijo Early Life

RMD grew up near Warri, Delta State and completed his primary school education in Warri where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. He then proceeded to Midwest College in Warri for his secondary school education at Anglican Grammar School in Warri and obtained his West African Senior School Certificate. During his secondary school days, he was actively involved in drama and performing arts and was a member of a Drama Club in his school.

RMD further attended the University of Benin in Edo State and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts. After obtaining his first degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Benin in 1997, he went further to the University of Lagos to study Law, graduated in 2004 with a Master’s Degree in Law and was called to the Nigerian bar in 2005.

A Creative Fire-brand, RMD wrote for several prestigious newspapers and publications including Concord and Guardian. In his early 30s he published Nigeria’s first all-gloss magazine for men, ‘Mister’ which he sold for several millions at 33 years old. He later quit the media job and joined the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) and acted in his first television soap opera “Ripples”. The film became a very popular and skyrocket him to fame.

In 2008, RMD was called to serve in government in his home state, Delta State, first as a Special Adviser to The Governor and subsequently as The Honorable Commissioner of Culture and Tourism. The fact that RMD was greatly missed by fans all over the world is clearly seen in the way he broke the internet when he returned to the scene and reactivated his social media accounts. Since his return to the scene RMD has as always, been the toast and desire of not just fans but journalists, photographers, stylists, brands, writers and film makers. RMD has since his return to acting in the past year travelled the world starring in TV Shows, Movies, TV commercials and representing Nigeria in the global scene of which the 007 Spyfie, is one. Having endorsed many brands in the past, he is presently brand ambassador for Africa’s largest and fastest growing telecommunications network.

RMD owns one of Nigeria’s foremost PR outfits White Water Limited which he still actively runs alongside his production company RMD Productions Limited, owners of RMD Tv NG and RMD The Actor and plays in the TV Show, Tinsel.

RMD was married to his long time girlfriend, Mary Ellen Ezekiel, until her death in 1996. The marriage produced two children including his first son, Oghenekome Mofe Damijo. In 2000, RMD got married again to Jumobi Mofe-Damijo (Nee Adegbesan) and the marriage is currently blessed with two beautiful kids.

Not so long ago, RMD became a grandfather as his first son, Oghenekome and wife, gave birth to their daughter, and later to a son. RMD is currently one of the richest and most influential actor in Nigeria with an estimated net worth of $7 million.

In 2005, he won the award for the Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards and Most Prominent Actor in Nigeria at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards. In 2012 he won a Special Recognition Award at the Best of Nollywood Awards and in 2016, LifeTime Achievement Award at the 12th Africa Movie Academy Awards.
