About Katsina-ala Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Katsina Ala local government area is domiciled in Benue state, North-cewntral geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Katsina Ala. Katsina LGA is bordered by parts of Taraba state and by the Kwande, Ushongo, and Buruku LGAs. Towns and villages that make up Katsina Ala LGA include Tor Dunga, Katsina Ala, Gbise, and Ayati. The estimated population of Katsina Ala LGA is put at 194,693 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Tiv ethnic division. The Tiv language is widely spoken in the area while the religions of Christianity and Islam are widely practiced in the LGA. Notable landmarks in Katsina Ala LGA include the Government College Katsina Ala and the Katsina Ala Polytechnic.


GEOGRAPHY OF KATSINA-ALA

Katsina Ala LGA sits on an area of 2,402 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The area hosts a number of water bodies such as the Katsina Ala river and the Loko and Aketa lakes. Katsina Ala LGA falls within theGuinea Savannah vegetation and the landscape consists of undulating hills and shrubs. The average wind speed in Katsina Ala LGA is put at 9 km/h.


ECONOMY OF KATSINA-ALA

Trade is a major component of the economy of Katsina Ala LGA with the area hosting a number of markets such as the Abaji and the Katsina Ala town markets. Farming is the main source of living for the people of Katsina-Ala LGA with the area known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as yams, sorghum, melon, cassava, and maize.

HISTORY OF KATSINA-ALA

Katsina Ala LGA was created in the year 1970 from the defunct Tiv Native Authority.
