About Kwande Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Kwande local government area is domiciled in Benue state, North-central Nigeria. Kwande LGA is bordered by the Vandekiya, Ushongo, and Katsina-Ala LGAs and by parts of Cross river and Taraba states. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Adikpo and the LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Kende, Dio, Nanev, Turan, Ikurave-Ya, Shangev-Ya, Yaji, Igon, and Susu. The estimated population of Kwande LGA is put at 14,809 inhabitants with the area mostly populated by members of the Tiv ethnic group. The Tiv language is widely spoken in the area while the religions of Christianity and Islam are practiced in the area.Notable landmarks in Kwande LGA include the St. Andrews Secondary School Adikpo.


GEOGRAPHY OF KWANDE

Kwande LGA covers a total area of 2,891 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 26 degrees centigrade. The area hosts several mountains and is heavily forested. Kwande LGA has an average wind speed of 12 km/h while the average humidity level of the LGA is put at 56 percent.


ECONOMY OF KWANDE

Kwande LGA has a rich agricultural heritage and is known for the cultivation of a wide variety of crops such as yam, maize, cassava, and a plethora of fruits. Trade also flourishes in the LGA with the area hosting several markets where a variety of commodities are bought and sold.

HISTORY OF KWANDE

Kwande LGA was created on the 3rd of February, 1976 from the defunct Katsina-Ala division.
