Foreman Plans, Directs And Reviews The Work Of A Shift Of Utility Workers Performing A Variety Of Janitorial Duties In Maintaining Rolling Stock, Shops, Offices And Revenue Vehicles In Clean And Orderly Condition; Provides For The Instruction Of Staff In Work And Safety Procedures; Performs Related Work As Assigned.

Foreman Duties/Functions/Responsibilities

  • Assesses and adjusts activities to ensure that revenue operation is not impacted; assesses scope of unscheduled maintenance work and assigns work or determines if work should be completed by other shifts.
  • Reviews performance of Utility Workers, counsels employees and prepares documentation of deficiencies.
  • Holds safety meetings and discussions of shop issues; trains employees and monitors and enforces the use of protective equipment and safe work practices.
  • Reads and interprets work orders and supply instructions; maintains logs and records and prepares reports of work performed
  • Keep management advised of unusual situations occurring during shift.
  • Resolves minor disputes and informs supervisors of disciplinary problems requiring action.
  • Plans daily work schedules in accordance with established cleaning schedules and assigned special activity list; assigns work to individuals or crews and ensures that work is done to accepted standards and within an established time frame.
  • Interprets District policies and procedures to employees.
  • Ensures that necessary tools, equipment and supplies are available for completion of the work.
  • Orders and requisitions stock or special supplies and equipment as approved by supervisor.
