About Bende Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Bende local government area is found in Abia state which is situated within the Southeast geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The LGA is made up of a number of towns and villages which include Amaoba, Obuohia, Itumbauzo, Nditoli, Mbukwa, Ngwu, Umuh-Ezechi, Amadiaba, and Nkpa. Bende LGA boasts a population of about 159, 424 inhabitants with members of the Igbo tribe being the vast majority of this number. Christianity is the widely practiced religion in Bende LGA while the Igbo and English languages are spoken extensively in the area. Bende LGA is home to a number of colourful festivals which include the Ezumezu Igbere festival while popular landmarks in the area include the Arochukwu Agbama Cave in Amankalu Alayi.


GEOGRAPHY OF BENDE

Bende local government area features two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The humidity of the area is put at 63 percent while the average temperature is 27.5 degrees centigrade. Wind speed in Bende LGA averages 11 km/h while the area’s landscape features an abundance of grasslands with lush green vegetation.


ECONOMY OF BENDE

Bende LGA has a rich agricultural heritage and is known for the cultivation of crops such as yam, cassava, and cocoyam. Also, a State-owned oil palm plantation is domiciled in the area. Other important economic activities of the area include trade, hunting, blacksmithing. Also, Bende LGA is rich in minerals such as Salt, Gold, Limestone, and laterite gravel.
