About Ugwunagbo Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ugwunagbo local government area is situated in Abia state, South-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria. Towns and villages that make up Ugwunagbo LGA include Ihie, Obuzo, Ngwayiekwe, Obegu, Asa-Umunka, Amaokpu Umuitiri, and Amapu-uke. The estimated population of Ugwunagbo LGA is put at 163,732 inhabitants with the area primarily occupied by members of the Igbo ethnic group. The Igbo language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Christianity is extensively practiced in the area. The New Yam festival is celebrated in Ugwunagbo LGA while the Umuobasiukwu Power Plant is one of the notable landmarks in the area.


GEOGRAPHY OF UGWUNAGBO

Ugwunagbo LGA occupies a total area of 108 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 26 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the rainy and the dry seasons with the average wind speed in the area put at 10 km/h.


ECONOMY OF UGWUNAGBO

Farming is an important economic activity in Ugwunagbo LGA with crops such as yam, maize, cassava, breadfruit and cocoyam grown in the area. Trade also blossoms in the area with the LGA hosting a number of markets where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. Crude oil is also found in a few villages within Ugwunagbo LGA.
