About Umu - Nneochi Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Umunneochi local government area is domiciled in Abia state, South-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Nkwoagu and the LGA is made up of several towns and villages which include Umuchieze, Nneato, Isuochi, Amuda, Lokpaukwu, Lokpanta, Mbala, and Lomara. The estimated population of Umunneochi LGA is put at 172,314 inhabitants with the area predominantly inhabited by members of the Igbo ethnic group. The Igbo language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Christianity is widely practiced in the area. Important festivals celebrated in Umunneochi LGA include the New Yam festival while notable landmarks in the area include the Ihie Community Primary School and the Isuochi Model Junior Secondary School.


GEOGRAPHY OF UMU - NNEOCHI

Umunneochi LGA covers a total area of 368 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 27 degrees centigrade. The LGA has a typical tropical climate and witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with an estimated average wind speed of 10 km/h.


ECONOMY OF UMU - NNEOCHI

A number of mineral are deposited in Umunneochi LGA and these include granite, quorite, and laterite. Farming is a major source of livelihood for the dwellers of Umunneochi LGA with crops such as blackbeans, cocoyam, cashew, and oil palm grown in the area. Other important economic activities that take place in Umunneochi LGA include trade, animal rearing, and hunting.
