About Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Isialangwa south local government area is in Abia state which is situated in the South-east geopolitical enclave of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Omuoba and the LGA comprises of towns and villages such as Ovu Ngwa, Umuotiri, Isiala Nvosi, Amaku, Ovu-ukwu, Omoba, Okpuala, Mbutu, and Amaise. The estimated population of Isialngwa south LGA is put at 179,549 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Ngwa sub-division of the Igbo ethnic group. The Igbo language is predominantly spoken in the LGA while Christianity is the most practiced religion in the area. Popular festivals in Isialangwa south LGA include the New Yam festival while the prominent traditional rulers in the area include the Avosi of Isialangwa.

Isialangwa south LGA covers a total area of 258 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 27 degrees centigrade. The average humidity level of the LGA is 65 percent while the average wind speed in the area is 10 km/h.


ECONOMY OF ISIALA NGWA SOUTH

A number of markets such as the Omoba daily market are found in Isialangwa south LGA and the residents of the LGA go to this and other markets to buy and sell a wide variety of commodities. Farming is another important aspect of the economy of Isialangwa LGA with a variety of crops such as yam and cassava grown in the area.
