Gummi

Gummi local government area is domiciled in Zamfara state, Northwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters are in the town of Gummi. Towns and villages that make up Gummi LGA include Birnin Tudu, Gummi, Albarkawa, Yardiga, Yartsayasu, and Lemawa. The estimated population of Gummi LGA is 204,556 inhabitants with the area’s major inhabitants being members of the Hausa and the Fulani ethnic divisions. Gummi LGA hosts the prestigious Gummi Emirate which spans several decades. The Hausa and the Fufulde languages are commonly spoken in the area while the religion of Islam is extensively practiced within the area.

Gummi LGA covers a total area of 2,610 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 34 degrees centigrade. The average wind speed in the LGA is 10 km/h while the total precipitation in the area is estimated at 800 mm of rainfall per annum.

ECONOMY OF GUMMI

Agriculture is a key economic feature of Gummi LGA with several crops grown in the area chief of which is the popular Calabash crop. A number of animals such as cows and horses are reared in the LGA while the area hosts several markets where a variety of commodities are bought and sold.
