Zamfara State

Zamfara state is located in the Northwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has the town of Gusau as its capital. Other prominent towns in Zamfara state include Anka, Bakura, Shinkafi, and Maru. Zamfara state is bordered by Niger republic, Kaduna, Katsina, sokoto, and Niger states.

The total number of LGAs in Zamfara state is 14 and these include Anka, Bakura, Birnin Magaji, Bukkuyum, Bungudu, Tsafe, Gummi, Gusau, Kaura Namoda, Maradun, Maru, Shinkafi, Talata Mafara, and Zurmi with an estimated total population of 3,259,846 inhabitants. The major tribes in Zamfara state include the Hausa, Fulani, Anka, Gunmi, and Bukkuyum. Popular languages in Zamfara include Hausa, Fufulde and Arabic. Islam is the dominant religion in Zamfara state and the state was the pioneer state in the adoption of the Sharia law. Tertiary institutions in Zamfara state include the Abdul Gusau polytechnic Talata, Federal College of Education (Technical) Gusau, Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda, Institute of Comuter Education, College of Islamic studies Gusau, School of Nursing and Midwifery Gusau, Maradun Islamic Academy, and the Zamfara state University Talata Mafara. A number of health facilities exist in Zamfara state and these include the Farida General Hospital Gusau, Yariman Bakura specialist hospital, Rama hospital Gusau, Dula Hospital and and Maternity home, Gusau, General Hospital Bakura, and the Arewa Hospital, Gusau.

GEOGRAPHY OF ZAMFARA STATE

Zamfara state has a total area of 39,762 km squared with a tropical warm climate. The average precipitation is 850 mm per annum while temperature averages 34 degrees centigrade.

Zamfara state has a number of rivers which include the Zamfara river, the Rima river and the River Ka.

ECONOMY OF ZAMFARA STATE

Zamfara is popular for the cultivation of crops such as cereals and legumes and is also known for Animal rearing. Zamfara state also has a large deposit of Lead. Trade is also an important economic aspect of Zamfara state with the state hosting several markets such as the Tudun wada market Gusau, Second hand Clothes market Gusau, Old market, Chile mkt Dansadau, Tugun manji market, Shinkafi market, and the Gusau Central market.

Mineral deposits in Zamfara state include Iron ore, Alluvial Gold, Chromate, Chamorite, Granite, Clay, Limestone, Quartz, Kaolin, Copper, tantalite, and Manganese.    

HISTORY OF ZAMFARA STATE
