About Gusau Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Gusau local government area is in Zamfara state, Northwest Nigeria. The LGA which also doubles as the capital city of Zamfara state comprises of several towns and villages which include Ungumar Dawaki, Tudun Wada, Magaji, and Janyau. The estimated population of Gusau LGA is 191,770 inhabitants with the most prominent tribes in the area being the Hausa and the Fulani. The Hausa and Fufulde languages are widely spoken in the area while Islam is the commonly practiced religion in the area. Notable landmarks in Gusau LGA include the Gusau Dam.


GEOGRAPHY OF GUSAU

Gusau local government area falls under the Tropical Savannah climate and witnesses two major seasons which are the rainy and the dry seasons. The LGA covers a total area of 3,364 square kilometres with the average humidity level of the area put at 18 percent. The LGA consists of large portions of dry and arid desert lands. The average wind speed in Gusau LGA is 12km/h.


ECONOMY OF GUSAU

Agriculture is the bedrock of Gusau LGA with a number of crops cultivated in the area. Also, animals such as cows and sheep are reared and sold in the area. Other important economic activities engaged in by the people of Gusau LGA include trade, hunting, weaving and pottery.
