About Talata Mafara Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Talata Mafara local government area is found in Zamfara state, North-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Talata Mafara with the LGA constituted by a number of towns and villages which include Dankadon Daji, Morai, Guza, Ruwan Gizo, Yartasha, and Talata Mafara. The estimated population of Talata Mafara LGA is put at 184,534 inhabitants with the LGA mostly populated by members of the Hausa/Fulani ethnic groups. The Hausa language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Islam is widely practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Talata Mafara LGA include the Abdu Gusau Polytechnic and the Zamfara state University.

Talata Mafara LGA covers a total area of 1,430 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 34 degrees centigrade. The LGA lies close to the Sokoto River and has an average wind speed of 11km/h. Talata Mafara LGA also has long stretches of arid and desert-like land.

Trade is a distinct ecomonic feature in Talata Mafara LGA with the area hosting a number of markets which provide platforms for the exchange of a wide variety of goods and services. Animal rearing is also a prominent feature of the economic activities undertaken by the people of Talata Mafara LGA with animals such as camels and donkeys reared and sold in the area. Other important economic features in Talata Mafara LGA include pottery and craftsmanship.
