About Zurmi Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Zurmi local government area is situated in Zamfara state, North-west geopolitical enclave of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Zurmi with the LGA sharing boundaries with parts of the Niger Republic and Katsina state. Zurmi LGA hosts the Zurmi Emirate and has a number of towns and villages such as Gurbin Bore, Kwashabawa, Birane, Mayasa, Tungar Fulani, Mashema, and Tubali. The estimated population of Zurmi LGA is put at 258,731 inhabitants with the area predominantly occupied by members of the Hausa/Fulani ethnic groups. The Hausa language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Islam is widely practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Zurmi LGA include the Zurmi Microfinance Bank limited and the Government Arabic Secondary School, Zurmi.


GEOGRAPHY OF ZURMI

Zurmi LGA occupies a total area of 2,834 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 34 degrees centigrade. The area has typically high temperatures and has large portions of dry and arid land.


ECONOMY OF ZURMI

Farming is an important economic activity in Zurmi LGA with a wide variety of commodities grown in the area. A number of domestic animals such as donkeys, camels, and rams are reared and sold in the LGA. Other important occupations of the people of Zurmi LGA include hunting, trade, and leather works.
